2025 Partnership Award

The Rhode Island Trout Unlimited Partnership Award is presented to an individual or organization that has had a significant role in enabling and supporting Rhode Island TU in achieving its mission, conservation goals, and milestones. Some of the criteria for the award are as follows:

1) Participation as a key leader or role model by providing products, resources, and services, as well as time, energy, and knowledge necessary to enhance and enable Rhode Island TU to pursue and complete mission-related activities, projects, goals, and initiatives.

2) Promoting interest in the Chapter’s activities, projects, and meetings throughout both the Chapter’s and the partner’s communities.

3) Helping Rhode Island Trout Unlimited pursue its brand throughout the conservation and fishing community by collaborating with other like-minded organizations, non-profits, GMO’s and NGO’s

Some background about this year’s recipient:

In 1983, a group of residents decided to make sure that the town’s natural resources and open spaces would be protected in perpetuity. Rising population and increased development pressure on farmland and vacant land spurred their actions. This small, dedicated group recognized that preserving the land would require concerted effort and action. The group formed a board, established a new land trust, and drafted its first conservation easements. Forty years later, the organization has protected more than 3,000 acres of land town-wide, exceeds 850 members, and has a professional part-time staff of five. They have been instrumental in the protection of wildlife habitat, forest land, marine life spawning grounds, shoreline, freshwater habitat, and productive farms. They foster an understanding and sense of personal responsibility among the next generation of conservation stewards through education programs that engage children and adults.

The Rhode Island Chapter of Trout Unlimited would like to present the 2025 Partnership Award to

The South Kingstown Land Trust

Thank You to the South Kingstown Land Trust for being an invaluable partner to our chapter and helping us preserve the natural beauty of our state.
